If you are not yet sure if LiteCommerce meets your needs, you can download a 30-day free trial version, build prototype of your online store and give it a test drive. This demo version is fully functional except for several minor limitations. The evaluation version of LiteCommerce is encoded with ionCube technology. Generally, the system requirements are the same as for the commercial version.
The trial demo of LiteCommerce includes add-ons as well - "Promotion Tools", "Featured Products", "Bestsellers", "Gift Certificates", "Product Options", "Inventory Tracking", "Detailed Images", "MultiCategories", "Greet Visitor", "Showcase Organizer", "Wholesale Trading", "Egoods".

The source code is not corrupted, but it is encrypted with IonCube technology.

2. When I try to run the trial version, it tells me that it could not run ionCube loader. What is ionCube and why do I need it?
|

IonCube is a source code protection engine. IonCube compiles PHP files in encrypted binary format, therefore special loader is needed to run compiled files at your host. All necessary loaders are bundled with the trial demo.
Possible reasons why ionCube is not working at your host:
- ionCube loader not found (You are using MS Windows and LiteCommerce and PHP are located on different logical drives (eg. PHP is installed on disk C: and LiteCommerce on disk D:). To resolve this, move LiteCommerce to the same disk as PHP or put all loader files from the xcart/ioncube directory to the directory defined in the variable extension_dir in php.ini file (c:\php4\extensions\ by default). Also, you can visit the ionCube PHP Loader homepage, download the valid loaders for your system and install them following the instructions, provided by README file in loaders archive)
- Unsupported version of PHP (Currently versions of PHP 4.0.6 - 4.3.x are supported)
- Dynamic loading is disabled at your system (Eg. safe mode is on)
- Unsupported operation system (Currently LiteCommerce trial is available for Windows NT/2000/XP, FreeBSD 4&5, Linux Intel, MacOS X, Solaris Sparc)

3. I uploaded trial version via ftp in ASCII mode to my server but it is not working. Why?

It should be uploaded to your site in BINARY mode, because it contains non-text files, and uploading the files in ASCII mode may corrupt the contents of distributive.

4. Will I get all functionality of LiteCommerce 30 day trial after purchasing basic LiteCommerce software?

To give you a better idea about LiteCommerce software we included several commercial add-ons into LiteCommerce 30 day trial. They are not included into the basic software and can to be purchased separately. The following commercial add-ons are included in LiteCommerce 30 day trial: ProductOptions, InventoryTracking, Gift Certificates and Promotional Package.

5. How can I get access to the source code of LiteCommerce?

Trial version is distributed in 100% encrypted form, so you cannot view or modify the PHP code. Commercial version of LiteCommerce is provided to you with a 97% open source code that can be easily extended or customized.

6. After unpacking the trial distribution file using WinZip I could not get it to work (blank screens, error messages). What's wrong?

If you use winzip to unpack the .tgz then you must disable the 'TAR file smart CR/LF conversion' under Options|Configuration|Miscellaneous menu.

7. Can I change default design in the trial version?

Yes, all templates can be customized using built-in templates editor or any external WYSIWYG editors like DreamWeaver or any text editor.

8. Can I upgrade the trial version?
|
|
No, it's impossible. It is not recommended to power live e-commerce websites by trial versions
of software. Though LiteCommerce trial demo cannot be upgraded into commercial version, it is possible to export products catalog from the trial demo and then import into the commercial version. Also, it is possible to migrate templates if release numbers of the free trial and commercial versions match.

9. What are the limitations of the trial version?
|

- The trial version will expire in 30 days after installing
- Modules proviging interfaces to online payment gateways (CC/ACH) are disabled
- Modules for realtime shipping calculation are disabled
- HTML catalog module is disabled
- Customer will periodically get the nag screen while surfing in customer's area
